Brief
Born in 1971 in Bazhong, Sichuan, Li Yongzheng pursued higher education at Sichuan Fine Arts Institute’s Department of Technology and Department of Oil Painting from 1989 to 1991. In 1994, he graduated from the Department of Fine Arts of Southwest University (formerly Southwest Normal University). From 1998 to 2000 he attended workshops at the Department of Sociology of Sichuan University while living and working in Chengdu, Sichuan.

In his creations, whether it is performance art, installation, video or long-term interactive works of art, Li Yongzheng strives to maintain a clear angle from the bottom of the experience, that is, supports for human rights, freedom and so on. The subtle and poetic nature of his creative approach is still full of strong political metaphors. He often makes in-depth choices about the background and place in which the work is produced. In the forms of the installations, he repeatedly scrutinizes the history and even cultural sources of the “substance” that make up the installations. He is also considered to be an important representative artist in the Chinese mobile Internet era.
