The presence of mobile Internet brings revolutionary changes to the life style of human, and art is no exception. Photography was a shock on classical art and gave birth to modernism. The rapid spread of mobile internet technology also makes once pioneering contemporary art become “classical contemporary art”. How should art face mobile Internet? This is a brand-new question for everyone in the art circle. No one can resolve it for now but those sensitive ones could see enormous possibilities here.
Mobile Internet is much more democratic, open, and low-cost. For now, the new mode it has generated is, “the initiator of a creative project is just one that inspires, while it incurs the crowds’ creation, investment and consumption, more possibilities have been triggered in this course, with constantly opening and generating.”
Brick Relay is totally a work created and transmitted on mobile Internet. This work is quite gears to the spirit of mobile Internet in the modes of creation and transmission, and it is a pioneering work in the contemporary art circle of China, which has special significance in art history.
It’s innovation lies in:
- For all the works before, at most, in the name and mode of art, artists created social events to arouse attention from public media and then spread in public media. As for “Brick Relay”, the artist created the original form of this work, he then passed the right of creation to all the participants. Every participant takes part in the creation of the work and transmits and interacts in their respective “we-media”.
- For all the works before, are fit for being displayed in art gallery, conforming to solidified gallery authority system. “Brick Relay” is specially created and transmitted on mobile Internet, it is not necessary to be displayed in any art gallery. It bypasses the dominating and costly gallery mode.
- For all the works before, were created once and for all. The creation of “Brick Relay” is endless, and it can be transmitted and created continuously. In addition, it is open, all new participants, new modes of creation, and new ways of transmission are welcomed. Even, it finally becomes non-directly- related to the brick itself.
- “Brick Relay” does not advocate or make any absolutely “right” values, letting every participant showing their individual values truly through creating and transmitting this work. This is either for the respect of every participant, or calmly probing and directly showing the facts.
